we woke on the second day in our warm and cozy camper van, all cuddled up in a double sized bed under our comforter from home and with our kitty cuddled between us. you guys, THIS is the way to camp.
and, just like home, james crawled in just as the sun came up.
look how cute she is. gah.
we took a hike in the northern unit of the bellevue state park, with all sorts of autumnal beauty and views of the mississippi.
after a quick riverside sandwich in bellevue, iowa,
we kept driving along the iowa shore of the mississippi, with this little dashboard delight.
also, we found thunder road. sorta figured that was in new jersey.
we visited the beautiful mines of spain state park and got educated about the spanish land ownership in iowa, and the peaceful deeding of land to julian dubuque and the native tribe he had married in to. and then we visited his grave in the park, right here in this weird little jail cell.
and then we found our campsite on a hilltop at pike's peak state park (not to be confused with the majestic 14,000+ foot mountain in colorado) and it was wonderful!
gorgeous views, big sites, and not a single other soul to be seen. pandemic perfection. we were thrilled with our foresight to camp here two nights in a row. we celebrated with spaghetti and a fire.
