the best day of the whole adventure, day 3 had us hiking and biking all around pike's peak state park and macgregor, iowa. we boiled our water for coffee, tea, and oatmeal under the watchful green eyes of our tiny kitty.
after the dishes were done,
and a morning bike ride through the campground,
we hiked the bluff over the mississippi and wisconsin river confluence.
after a van lunch, supplemented with fried chicken from the local kwik star (apparently this is the iowa version of kwik trip),
we took the mountain bikes out for a spin to the top of the bluff on designated biking trails. it was absolutely great.
back at the camp site, i harvested a very large tree for the fire and set about trying to make it smaller, much to the pessimism of my family.
and then we did what the kids have been begging for: cuddled up inside the camper van and watched a movie on the wall mounted tv and dvd player.
