david had a birthday yesterday, and we have been celebrating for a while and we’re not done yet. it’s no secret that i really love birthdays, and no secret that i really love david, so it only makes good sense that we party big for this big 40th birthday. but it’s not just the birthday that’s worthy of celebration: it’s this guy himself. he’s extraordinary, he’s kind, he’s funny, and he is my rock, my anchor, the sun in my solar system. he’s my bestest of friends, the best of fathers and parents of all kinds anywhere. he was a solidly good scientist, and he’s an even better attorney. he’s smart and humble, generous and gentle.
so while his birthday is fun, and forty suits this wonderful adult well, i’m gonna try to celebrate him with intentional gratitude and a celebratory spirit all year long, and then longer. for the rest of my life, really.
