and these little muffins....well, they didn't have the typical end of school year feelings. you know that old "no more school, no more books, no more teacher's dirty looks...."? yep. we don't have that around here. instead, we had two grumpy grumpy kids when they woke up this morning. they didn't want to go to school, were reluctant to pen their thank you notes, and were tearful and angry and irritable when we picked them up this afternoon. they didn't want our celebratory ice cream (well, at least not right away...), and when we finally FINALLY got them to tell us what in the world was wrong, why were they such grumps when all their peers were silly crazy happy, they both wept. they both said they didn't want school to be over. they will miss their friends. they will miss their teachers.
i'm sure they will be cheery tomorrow. i'm sure they will enjoy their summer. i'm just so glad they love school. so so so glad.
(and so glad that we still managed to celebrate with our usual bike-ride-to-the-ice-cream-shop!)
