summer time. hiking time. camping time. friend time. birthday time.
all these things and times were honored with a birthday camping trip for david to devil's lake last week. devil's lake is a beautiful state park with a crystal clear cold blue lake in the middle of a ring of high bluffs. it makes for a perfect hiking-then-swimming summer afternoon. it's so nice that we did it twice, two days in a row.
on david's birthday, we drove to devil's lake after the rain cleared out, and joined up with some friends to hike along the bluffs.
we came back down once we had all worked up a good sweat, and strolled to the beach to cool off. i had the pleasure of walking behind these two little boys, who have spent the last year of school becoming good friends. it is so sweet to watch friendships blossom in childhood.
ramona cooled off in the park chalet with an icy treat,
and then the four of us found our campsite, set it all up, and then put our feet up.
based on my pictures from the campsite, it would appear that all we did was eat. but that isn't true. there was some sitting, talking, scootering, biking, and playing on the playground. we also ate. i am happy to report that my frozen pizza experiment worked!
and my "have the kids make a cherry pie over the campfire" experiment worked!
even the breakfast experiment worked!
the next day, we climbed some rocks with these little goats,
and then a bunch of our buddies came to join us and celebrate a few more birthdays (happy birthday jesse and leigh!). it was a happy weekend.
