cell biology

i had my third "first day" as a uw student this week. but different than my first day of undergraduate classes in 1997 and graduate school classes in 2003, this time i'm just a special student, taking one pathophysiology class with the doctorate nursing students. nonetheless, it's kind of exciting. my first reading assignment was a text book overview of cell biology and genetics, which was both boring and terrifying (like, how can the corners of my brain where i store information on the phospholipid bilayer and mitochondria and rna be so rusty and dusty?). interestingly, the day i did the reading on the life cycle of the cell, ramona brought this drawing home from school.

it's flowers, conjoined and identical but different, labelled ramona and james, drawn of the two of them on their first day of preschool as classmates. but you know what i saw?
the last step of mitosis. she nailed it.
