this past weekend we took a long labor day holiday in grand haven, michigan to visit james' and ramona's nana and papa. the weather was better than any other trip to michigan in recent memory. a lot of time was spent at the beach.
ramona and her nana are chef and sous chef of a all-sand restaurant. "how do you like your vanilla sand cakes?"
james spent about 11 seconds on the blanket before heading off to eat some sand.

we took a break from the beach to walk out onto the grand haven pier with nana and papa.

although we drive to michigan via chicago in the wee hours of the morning, we return via the high speed car ferry from muskegon to milwaukee (or as ramona calls it, the 'tooth ferry').
a good time was had by all.
