where summer comes early

here's a thing i didn't know about living next to a lake: when the lake is in your backyard and the sun goes down on that lake, your summer life arrives early. by the first week of may, days were long, the water glittered in the afternoon light, and the expectation of swimming and boating is present every day, even when the water is 48 degrees. it just looks like summer and feels like summer, so it basically becomes summer even with school still in session. it's great.

evidence abounds in this month of may photo dump, which includes life on our friend's boat, which they now keep at our house much to our deep satisfaction,

the neighborhood lagoon paddle race, in which david transported the kayak with a bike, and we came in second place!

james took spring roller ski lessons, which is weird and fun,

and the carp started spawning in the most aggressive fashion (also weird and fun)

if you're looking for me after work, this is what you'll find.
