the weather was chilly, rainy, windy, with a tiny dusting of snow on some rooftops, with big cold waves out on lake michigan. james got to celebrate his birthday with his staple family, and blew candles out on the same cake in the morning and the evening.

he got a fancy new lego set,

and a skateboarding cap, and did some coloring.

david and i snuck away to the beach for a few cold minutes

nana's place has a work-out room, so that's good news for EVERYONE.
caley is still a little cuddly, a little wary, and a little bit of a coaster.
nana has a new convertible, and despite the cold, a top-down cruise made everyone happy.
we took a walking tour of hope college in holland (and james managed to call 911 on the walk....again....sigh)
and we cuddled up by the fire downtown before having a yummy good-bye lunch.
but the squirrels? they're still black, just like in grand haven.

We had a wonderful weekend. The closest to James' birthday that we ever celebrated it. Maybe we'll stay in Michigan for the holidays again.
