getting in the spirit

i hate to complain about the weather--ever, really--because what good does it do? it just brings everyone down. but you know what? i sure wish it would snow, just even a little bit. it's hard to feel all cozy christmasy when the grass is green and the skies are clear and the thermometer stays above freezing. i'll admit that there is a lot of convenience in dry ground and clear skies, including comfortably biking to work, uncomplicated chicken care, and easy side walk strolling. but i'm ready to build a snow man, and shovel the driveway, and put on some skis.

nonetheless, we are embracing advent with gusto. the tree is up, the decor is sprinkled about the house, christmas music is on all the time, and holiday season plans are filling the calendar. bring it on, christmas spirit (and bring it on, mother nature!).

we started the season the same day we got back from florida. we dropped our bags in the front door, grabbed our coats, and headed out to the tree farm.

david chopped that tree down,

hoisted it high over his handsome head,

and then recruited his tiny helpers to help carry the tree back to the car.

at home, we dressed the tree up, swept up the stray needles, and sat back to bask in the minimal glow from this very beautiful but dense tree. (it needs more lights. but it's not gonna happen now.)
