we stopped in chicago on the way home from michigan thanksgiving, just like last year. this time, we mastered the family selfie in front of shiny things pose. please see exhibit a:

we had lunch in a michigan avenue food hall:
we said hi to the bean:
we visited the american girl doll store, where marigold had an eye exam,
got her ears pierced, and had afternoon tea.
american girl doll store made sure that everyone felt included, and they loaned james a boy doll that looked creepily like him, and james named him jackson and diligently fed and cared for him during tea.
later, we hit up a little dinner spot in ukranian village by our airbnb. we met up with some friends, and we dragged all the kids along. childless saturday evening chicago diners don't seem keen on having kids eating near them. whatever.
