birthday camp

david turned 41, and we partied with the mosquitoes.
we brought some friends, and some kids, and everyone brought amazing food and good times.
mother nature brought a brief hail storm and an otherwise glorious weekend.

we couldn't use the car doors because we're bad at strapping the canoe to the car, but we also brought a canoe.

here is the advance team, coming out of the woods, abandoning our planned waterfront hike-in site because the mosquitoes were jurassic.

and here is the younger version of the advance team, covered in Deep Woods Off and luxuriating on our new epic buckhorn state park group site. most importantly, this site was not waterfront, not swampy, and while still amazingly mosquito-ey, nothing like the wooded hike in site. so after some very serious consideration of leaving and getting a hotel, we stayed. and put up the hammock.

we proceeded to eat like kings. check out this mushroom bounty.

we had a little volleyball court adjacent to our site...
....which doubled nicely as a sandbox.

we had fire

we had rosemary rhubarb cake (and we used the only candle we could find but trust me...somehow we made these number add up to 41)

we had a glowy time

when it rained the next day, we took the kids bowling to hide out, and molly got a nap on a few chairs squeezed together in the mauston bowl. it was adorable.

back at the site....

the pizze oven had its inagural fire-up and the pizzas were magical.

on sunday morning, the pack up crew was the cutest pack up crew around.

thanks buckhorn, you weird buggy wonderful spot!
