lots of people have been thinking a lot for a long time about garbage, and there's an ever-increasing load of garbage for us to deal with. we live in the era of disposable products, plastic-wrapped produce, globalized economies and shipping containers and boxes with wrapping and packaging and casing. it's all overwhelming, and i can't help but think: where will it all go? china and india certainly don't want other country's junk anymore, and the best answer is to make less junk.
i've been sitting on these old phones, unable to throw them away, unsure how to proceed, and feeling angry every time i see them. why don't they work any more? why do they die after 2 years? is it all just planned obsolescence to drive profit without regard to waste? i mean, look at these expense little pocket computers, changed with each generation, made obsolete by their changes, and all in such a short amount of time.
anyway, i brought them to the apple store. they promised to recycle them into new phones. i doubt this is a zero-waste situation. i hate it.
