lucky number seven

sweet baby james is now officially a big wild seven. he's craaaaazy and brash and rude and sometimes he's just so extra that i want to bury my head in the sand. but he is also kind, caring, warm, diplomatic, sensitive, funny and clever, and he is becoming those things more and more every day. his teacher at conferences this year called him a leader, a joy, one of the most forgiving first graders she'd ever met. (this is only her second year teaching, BUT STILL).

his birthday was this saturday, so you can believe it was a big long birthday weekend. it started with presents at the breakfast table,

lots and lots of phone calls,


and hot chocolate, donuts, and a candle.


at the nitty gritty (madison's birthday bar), he got himself a root beer in his new birthday mug,

and then shared a bench with grandpa and daddy. but that tiny sundae? not sharing. all his.



after our goodbyes, we went to the second-hand lego store and built some epic minifigs...


and then selected a seasonally appropriate ice cream cake.


on sunday, we partied.
after some initial safety lessons, 16 wild kids hit up those climbing walls like bosses. it was so fun!
