big city, sunday edition

saturday was an all-day-in-new-york kind of day. it was cold and rainy and windy, and we filled it with indoor activities.
but first, i took a walk and found some bakery in our neighborhood. in fact, i came up the famous dominique ansel bakery and bought some cronuts. remember these things?
they were a big deal a few years ago: donuts punched out of croissant dough, fried, injected with cream, painted with frosting, and new yorkers waited in hours-long lines for them. well, not anymore, or at least not on rainy cold early saturday mornings in october, so i walked right in and got some. they were sort of ....meh. james said the cream tasted like guacamole, and that is not a good thing in a donut. he wasn't wrong. it was sort of pistachio-ey? the croissant i had, however, was out of this world. best ever. take that, france.

then we walked to the children's museum of the arts and had a wonderful time making and playing.

then we strolled through the west village to find some lunch at this awesome little place.

after that, a ride uptown to the metropolitan museum of art....where we found a line that looked long and cold and wet. but we hopped in and huddled up again the wind with about 10,000 other people. and then we were in and oohing and aahing at the pretty and ancient and amazing things.

we again found our friends ryan and jessica their kiddos miles and ruby and saw some art, played in central park for a minute (a literal minute) and then went back to their house for dinner and more play time. it was a perfect day.

also, i love this gate off park avenue into the playground in central park. it's full of aesop's friends and tales.

late train ride, late bedtime, big crash sleep for these two troopers.

sunday morning, one final through the vacant sunny street of soho in search of coffee and pastries. we even spotted a little laduree...

and peeked at those heavenly parisian macaroons.

oh hey! there's our little apartment! top floor...

right there. 6th ave and king.

bye, new york. until next time.
