house on the rock

we'd heard about it for a long time. we'd seen the billboards all over the place. and last week, when the spring weather was cold and dreary, we finally went. the house on the rock is a super weird dark old mid century house built upon and around a naturally occurring stone pillar, just down the road from frank lloyd wright's taliesen. it sure is beautiful countryside out there in spring green. but the house it just a small part of the stuff to see....and we really had no idea. there are weird rooms upon rooms of collections of old stuff and made stuff and weird stuff, and it took hours to walk through. it was bizarre. initially it was fascinating. then it was curious. then it was overwhelming. then it was exhausting, particularly the part where we carried james.
anyway.... it's a weird place. my pictures and descriptions can't even big to describe it. this site does a better job. and this guy really nails it.

but we've got some photos, too.
this is the only photo i have from the real house. it's the infinity room, which is long and wobbly and is cantilevered out over a ravine.

but then there was a ton of suits of armor,

and giant automated music machines,

including an entire FULL ORCHESTRA of automated mannequins holding musical instruments and playing a real orchestral piece at the click of a button,

and there is also a giant 3 story tall weird sculpture of a squid fighting a ferocious giant whale,

and the world's largest carousel, which boasts the most chandeliers on...a...ummm, carousel?

and here we all are, still unaware of just how much lies ahead of us.

there's nothing that a few french fries and chocolate milk can't fix, and if you're in spring green, go to this restaurant! the old state bank of spring green is home to a very nice place called freddy valentine's.

What an experience. I never knew it was like that. I'd love to go.
