the countdown is on. 12 days to go until the birkebiner, which is a big cross country ski race in northern wisconsin. we went last year (perhaps you remember my last birkie-reated blog post, also titled birkie fever) and had such great fun that we immediately signed up to do it again. just like last year, i'll be skiing the half distance race but david is going for the full thing this year. that's 55 kilometers of classic skiing in the woods. that's, like, 6 hours. he's a hero.
we've been training (which, let's be honest here: how can you not fall in love with a sport when the training and the racing are this peaceful and beautiful? this is a sport for the soul, folks),
david has a fancy new (well, new to him. i think this thing is early 90's vintage, straight off ebay) race suit,
and we have a movie to look forward to watching to celebrate our race's historical norwegian context.
