girls getaway

this weekend, i spent a full 24 hours out of the house with good friends, shopping and driving and eating and hot tubbing and drinking and sleeping and relaxing. we celebrated a 35th birthday, we had supper club fare on the shores of green lake, we bought antiques in princeton wisconsin, and we stayed the night at the heidel house. the only pictures i took include a table that i am coveting from an antique store (now, if i could just expand my dining room by 3 feet, we'd be all set....), a glass of wine on a hand written note from jeff (suggesting a romantic element to the weekend; there was no romance),

and a view of green lake from a dock i visited in the middle of my early morning run on sunday. despite the gray cold gloomy rain, it was a nice run along a very nice lake.

it's funny to me to think back on my last and only other time at the heidel house. the funny part is that it doesn't feel like it was that long ago, but was in reality 20 years ago. twenty years. TWENTY. i like the idea that i've been having girls' weekend getaways to resorts for 20 years.

i first went for my friend beth's birthday in our freshman year of high school. she was turning 15, and her mother operated the gift shop at the heidel house, and was able to arrange a night in the hotel for beth and 5 friends. no adult stayed with us, which was a giant moment of independent pride for all of us.

this weekend, we had lovely quiet time with no children along. 20 years ago, we were unquiet children ourselves. both times were wonderful.

this weekend and 20 years ago, the bathrooms and interior guest room decor were identical. i know i've changed in that time; maybe it's time for a few updates yourself, heidel house?
