little olympians

every two years, the olympics occurs, and every 2 years, i wish that i had a tv and a cable subscription. almost at no other time do we miss it. the internet really covers all of our viewing needs, with the exception of the olympics. nbc doesn't care about us unsubscribed non-cable having losers, and they will not allow us to view their streaming content on line.
well, well, well, nbc....you haven't won. nope. we're hiding out in a special VPN, and we can finally FINALLY watch the olympics. the announcers we're listening too say "aboot" instead of "about" and "mum" instead of "mom" and they cannot stop talking about some pretty sisters who also happen to be mogul champions from quebec. but that is all i can say about our top secret internet operations.

the kids are loving the olympics, and have learned terms like "half pipe" and "hot dog" and "japan" and "luge." we've also had a pretty sporty weekend, coincidentally, and our kids are very similar to champion athletes.

ramona started level one swim lessons this saturday. no more parents in the pool! she was nervous and brave, she listened to the teacher, and (please allow me to brag for a moment) was totally awesome. she back floated, she tummy floated with her face underwater for a total of 10 seconds, she jumped in all by herself, and she independently climbs out of the pool (while silently mouthing to herself elbow-elbow-belly-knee-knee. it is SO cute).

all belted up and ready for class (float belts have replaced kick boards. remember those horrible kick boards? i hated those things.)

back float!

hanging on the edge of the pool with the big kids

james is still in the toddler swim class "shrimp dip" and our little shrimp dipped with his daddy. these kids love the water! here's james and his winning smile, and practicing a little pool re-entry.

later, we skated a bit. ramona told me she was going to do figure eights, and james told me he was skiing. neither one did either promised activity, but they tried. kind of.

pre-skating lassitude

single blade skates and confidence. she lost the walker about 2 minutes later.

james wore skates the for very first time on ice (instead of his big rubber boots), and lasted for exactly 5 seconds. note the skater, in his skates, all packed up in the stroller and looking quite grumpy.

james was a gold medal winner in the new event "freestyle nap time diaper removal and pee all over the crib." he won it handily. look at him in his triumphant nude glory, staring down at the vanquished diaper foe.

that kid. i love him.
