the annual staple family thanksgiving-style-and-themed get-together, known as harvestfest, happened last weekend. it was super, as usual. we were so busy eating, and resting, and playing and cooking that we took zero pictures of the family. zero. so i'll just have to post these words to commemorate the weekend. we had turkey and green beans and squash and salad and apple pie. both our kids spent some time at the kids' table, which made us feel like they're really growing up, in that awesome way where you feel like they're maybe actually going to survive into the future. maybe. we did dishes and watched baseball and caught up with family.
we also got to take a trip into grand rapids for art prize. nana and papa generously cared for the kids on friday while we strolled about grand rapids looking at temporary public art installments and eating some lunch. we even shared a beer with a friend at founder's, which is a visit i highly recommend if you are in grand rapids and like good beer.
anyway. we saw lots of stuff, like this stuff...
a map of the city, made by a friend of david's from high school,
this gorgeous reflection of light on wall,
this thing, that makes me feel happy (which is no real surprise. i love new clothes.)
...and i even finally got my first up close look at
calder's famous permanent grand rapids sculpture, le grande vitesse.
peek a boo.

We had a great weekend with you. I love that Calder. Can you believe that when it was installed there was tons of criticism as many people hated it. Some still do.
