this year, my thoughtful family needed a record low number of reminders that Mother's Day celebrations are weekend-long, and begin promptly at 5pm on friday. already today, i've slept in (shockingly and luxuriously late, in fact), had waffles made for, haven't washed a single dish, had a backyard picnic and a sun soaked backyard snuggle with my favorite daughter. tonight we have a babysittter, tomorrow we have brunch plans, and i have tickets with a dear friend to a show celebrating and contemplating motherhood. may all the mothers feel as lucky, appreciated, and celebrated as i do today (well, really, this whole weekend).

good job david, ramona and james! you didn't request a mother's week? only a weekend? how modest.
