i love the internet, part #74

yesterday, during the day, i knew nothing about baby chick leg splinting in response to baby chick leg injuries. (we may have chickens, but we are most certainly not well trained chicken farmers.) yesterday, during the evening hours, i took an unofficial crash course in leg splinting and fashioned a foot splint with cast and leg hobble for one of our fuzzy babies. thanks to google, blogging chicken farmers, and YouTube, i went from no knowledge to repaired chicken leg in less than an hour. thank you, internet. you are the best.

one of our bantam brahma chicks (either laura or barbara bush....we can't tell them apart) got a bunch of waste material stuck to her foot, curling her toes at an uncomfortable angle, and even after cleaning up, she wouldn't step with that foot. spraddle leg chicken, curled toe chicken, downer chicken: maybe these labels apply to her. all I knew was that she wouldn't walk, was being trampled by her larger and very inconsiderate friends, and would die without help. so now she is quarantined, has a foot splint made of tape, gauze, and cardboard, and her legs are taped together which, paradoxically, requires her to use them both. poor tiny bird. we're pulling for you, mrs. bush!
