down on the farm

spring is here, and with it, our farming skills. of course, we are unskilled farmers, at best, but we keep trying. our "terrace" or the space between the street and sidewalk has been a messy tangle of wildflowers and grasses that we understand was intentional landscaping by previous owners. it looked bad. like, real bad. so bad that a kid with a little lawn mowing/yard care service once knocked upon the door to offer his services, at least just mowing, for that area in particular. and then pointed to it and said, "unless you want it to look like that...". mind your own business kid! anyway. ahem.

the point is that this spring, we cleaned it up. and by we, i mean david. he put out some raised garden beds, filled them with compost from our very own compost bins, and weeded around the boxes. it looks nice. hopefully the city agrees, as this terrace is technically their property.

here he is, farmer dave, hoeing his land.

meanwhile, james looks on from the front yard.

james took some time to contemplate the wonder of dandelions.

ramona's cultivating her own green thumb through flower appreciation. her dominant skill is snapping the heads off of tulips. an emerging skill: eating said tulips, petals and all. this is not good.

how ferocious do our chickens look in this picture?
