christmas is coming, and 'tis the season to give. but what do you give a toddler whose greatest pleasure is smooshing old dry play doh with a plastic spoon, and a newborn whose greatest pleasure is....sleeping? well, wired.com came up with a pretty awesome list of the 5 best gifts for kids ever. the list?

you should read the product reviews on the list. they're very thorough, well researched, and entertaining. and i can say from first hand experience that the author of the list is totally right. ramona loves all those things, they are affordable and abundant, but never tiresome. she's already got a cardboard tube, and it's great for peering at and shouting at daddy.



we have a garage full of sticks and dirt, courtesy of ramona, and just yesterday she spent some quality play time in a box.
but string? it never occurred to me to give my children string. it seemed a bit hazardous, but maybe this is the year that string is introduced to the growing list of household playthings. 'tis the season!
