art prize

we finally attended art prize last weekend. art prize is grand rapids, michigan's 2 week long art festival and contest. throughout the city, hundreds of installations of every type of art you can think of are on display in public, for the public, by the public. the viewing public casts one vote per person for the best piece of art. we had a chance to see most of the top 10 finalists and the big winner.

plus, we got to spend a gloriously warm and sunny fall day in grand rapids, walking around, toddler-free, with one of our favorite people in the world (libby, david's sister). we never spend time in grand rapids, now that david's parents no longer live there, and last weekend we realized that we've been missing out on a great and revitalized downtown.

my favorite installation: chainsaw carved grizzlies catching salmon in the fountain outside the ford museum. i am a simple person, and i like animals. i'm not ashamed.

ford, contemplating ford, all inside a very distracting glass box. the box was a bummer, because we heard this was a pretty cool piece, but inside the box it was just sort of ...meh.
taking a break on the big button (not part of art prize, but arguably art).
and the $250,000 winner is: jesus.

This is true, but you've seen one crucifixion...

Happy one-month-until-baby-day!
