today is marta's germanium (atomic number 32) birthday.
i could say that, like germanium, marta is starting to display some grayish-white color (ha ha ha), but i think the greater similarity between marta and germanium is their lustrous appearance. that, and the fact that dmitri mendeleev predicted their existence and properties based on their position in the periodic table.

Marta.. any advice for my Gallium birthday coming up soon? I'm looking forward to being liquid at room temperature, but the whole "brittle at low temperatures" bit is freaking me out slightly.... ahhh, to be Zinc forever...sadly it cannot be :P
