in a move that surprised both david and myself, the uw hoofers ski and snowboard club hosted a ski and snowboard rail jam at the memorial union terrace last week. of course, we are unfamiliar with most of the hoofers schedule and plans, so it takes very little surprise us.
at any rate, the ski and snowboard club brought a lot of snow to the terrace, spread it out over a tall ramp, hired a dj, plugged in some spotlights, and began to do some gnarly tricks on skis and snowboards in front of a crowd of students. the temperature was in the 50s and there was a light rain, so conditions were less than ideal for maintaining a snowy ramp, but it seemed like the kids were having fun. we snapped some photos of the out-of-season terrace-confusion event.
the snowy ramp. where did all that snow come from?
a snowboarder rides the rail after getting a little air. sweet.
mark said it was like a boom boom huck jam, but with snow. we'll have to thank tony hawk for introducing that term into the american vernacular.
we finished the evening with a satisfying dinner at the old fashioned. i ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, which should come with roasted red peppers and a few pieces of bacon. half way through the sandwich, i noticed a distinct lack of bacon. i didn't want a new sandwich, and was pretty happy with the way my bacon free sandwich tasted. david, thinking i should have a new sandwich with bacon, flagged down the waiter to tell him about the missing bacon. i declined the offer of a new sandwich, and the waiter apologized for the missing bacon. but guess what! when the bill came, my sandwich was on the house. nice way to end the day. gourmet grilled cheese for free.

that is AMAZING. I can't believe that is at the terrace!
You know, they used to do that in SF, down a big hill covered with snow, and residents would watch out their windows (now they do it at the arena).
