july was a big month around here. we did lots of things. one of those things was finally make good on my friend sara's reservation (first made in 2019 for 2020, then covid delayed to 2021) for a big big barn on the south shore of lake superior in wisconsin. high on a bluff, in the middle of absolutely nowhere, sits this big house built out of 8 different barns' materials. it's kinda amazing. again, when covid numbers were low and vaccination rates among our friend group achieved 100%, we took advantage of a summer moment when things were starting to feel normal again. ah, sweet relief, if only for a month.
check this place out: 7 families, a dog, one giant beach on the greatest great lake, and more food than you can even imagine.
and we took the longish drives to cornucopia for whitefish spread and the coolest general store ever,
amnicon falls state park for the waterfall swimming hole of our dreams,
and the city of duluth for some great biking in a downtown bluff park.
but really, it was at the cabin where things were just the best. (including that wood fired hot tub and sauna, which i miss every day).
