mother's day

spring has arrived, and maybe already feels like its transitioning to summer. i blame my campus job for that feeling; once the dorms empty out on mother's day weekend and work slows down and the campus crowds thin out, i just operate in summer mode even though it is still decidedly spring.

mother's day weekend this year was a good one, and was preceded by other good weekends, too. we've been busy (this is not news) giving college campus tours to our niece (COME ON MAGGIE BE A BADGER)...

and i've been busy wrapping up my spring half marathon season. it's been a rough one: i have a funky knee that i injured playing hockey and now i have a fancy case of prepatellar bursitis with running, and david has a funky heel pain that is messing up his calf muscle. it looks like we might be resting from running this summer. but before i put away my longer-distance shoes, i squeezed in two runs with my buddies (no race day pictures were taken) but here we are, many hours after our first race, in our matching vests and getting ready to wallop the competition in our team trivia. unrelated to running, but lemme just say my friends are good athletes AND very smart.

we went to a concert or two, one in the backyard of a neighbor, and one in an actual soccer stadium. holy cow, real life is coming back!

the new pier is in, the boat is here, and some crazy 9 year old boys have even been swimming.

mother's day was a beautiful one, complete with a bike ride to the farmer's market, planting my new geraniums, and a hotly contested game of backyard badminton.

and then, on the afternoon of mother's day, i filled my overnight bag with swimsuits and got an airplane to spend 3 days with my dearest crew of friends while we helped stacy break in her new airbnb house in phoenix. talk about nice gifts for me!
