northern getaway

the weekend before christmas, we snuck away to minocqua wisconsin for some snow and ice and skiing.  when we got to our family's cabin, we discovered that the resort's game room is closed because of COVID and they relocated their game machines to the cabins. we got the pacman cabin. i think we won. our friends also rented a cabin down the road, and they had the air hockey table and were pretty happy with it. there was SO MUCH pac man going on in our cabin.

we spent most of our time skating on the ice just under that fluffy snow. lake kaubashine was perfectly frozen and an absolute treat.

we even did some night skating to get to our friends' cabins for nighttime bonfires.

solstice was a dark one, with snowfall and thick cloud cover, so no visibility for the jupiter saturn convergence, but it was fun knowing there was a cool shift in the celestial sky at such an auspicious time of the year.

and oh how we skied! we hit up the trails at ABR in the upper peninsula, and it was glorious.
and ramona, true to form, skied only as much as she wanted, and then spent time in the car jamming to her favorite music....because the warming chalet was closed. COVID can't keep this kid down.
