pnw roadtrip itinerary

 we took approximately 1000 photos on this 2 week road trip, and i'll share them stop-by-stop. the pacific northwest is really gorgeous, and we spent a lot of time in the mountains thinking about volcanoes and all the forces that shape the earth that we see.

our itinerary looked like this;

1. north cascades national park, camping at diablo lake

2. olympic national park, camping at sol duc and then at kalaloch campgrounds

3. mt. rainier national park, camping at big creek national forest

4. chehalis, wa, to see my aunt and uncle

5. crater lake national park, camping at mazama campground

6. mt. shasta, camping at lake siskiyou camp resort <<originally, this would have been lava beds national monument and tule lake japanese internment camp historic monument, but between a recent forest fire and covid, these were both closed>>

7. lassen national park, camping at summit lake south

8. point reyes, staying with my sister

those were our plans, and with some last minute tweaks (see #6), it was perfect. what wasn't perfect was the deep slicing wound to my finger the day before we left. i was hurrying to make breakfast on my way out the door to work, and my dull serrated knife jumped the bread crust and landed in my pointer finger. i got 5 stitches and a whole lot of bandages, and some warily provided advice about keeping it "clean and dry" on the eve of a 2 week trip without running water, soap, baths, showers, or even substantial shelter. in the end, i said goodbye to urgent with a "good luck" from the pa who sewed me up, and a bottle of antibiotics, "just in case," clutched in my good hand.

no pics of the injury, but here's a little drawing i made of it for the kids.

this injury sure added some unexpected spice to the trip!
