pnw trip: olympia, washington

just because we came for the mountains and the national parks doesn't mean we will skip an opportunity to visit a state capitol in a city! on our way to our next stop (mt rainier....super excited about that one!), we stopped in washington's capitol city olympia for some lunch and a visit to their state capitol.

here's the scene from the van on the way to olympia....

and here we are in front of the legislative building on olympia's capitol campus. its just across the river from evergreen college, and right in the heart of a little capitol city that felt very much like our home of madison. we coudn't get our passport book stamped inside the building because it was closed to the public (thanks a lot COVID). but we will ask our friends over at the the capitol collection headquarters to honor the documentation of our visit by sending us a stamp. they're good like that.

just in case this is relevant in the future, if you go to olympia, eat at the cascadia grill. they'll happily talk to you as long as you'd like about famous people from the PNW, and more importantly, the need for an independent cascadia region. it's not something i was familiar with, but i am kinda curious... i mean, they already have an excellent flag planned.
