let's take a walk through the house, just to remember that first impression.
the front is kinda cute, kinda ugly, and i can't really decide. i like the hobbit style door, i don't like the interplay of the stone with the brick. there is something charming about the original brick siding; you don't see bricks like that anymore. the front window is the original leaded glass with diamond pattern, which is really pretty, but belies an ugly truth: these are original windows, and that is going to need to be addressed.
the entry makes it plain that this was two apartments at the time of building. the carpet on the stairs has to go, but the wood is gorgeous. that little step down past the stairs leads to the side door on the driveway, and then down to the basement.
turning to the left from the front door entry is the living room, which is all manners of dark and creepy with valences and clutter. the fireplace works, but has been covered over in some horrible peach tile. there are built in book cases on either side of the fireplace.
through the living room is formal dining room,
and then after that the kitchen as you move toward the back of the house. the first thing i noticed was this wet bar. i mean, what?
just beyond the wet bar is a bedroom on the back side of the house, a second stair case to the basement, and access to a sitting room and the bathroom (and about one million tiny closets and cupboards on the way)
across from the wet bar is more kitchen,
and across the island style range is more kitchen, looking out toward the back of the house. the appliances are beautiful dinosaurs.
that floor screams asbestos tile, no?
the view to the back, the garage, and the lake from the kitchen back door.
back inside, this little hall leads off the kitchen to the 1st floor bedroom, the yellow bathroom, and the sitting room.
first floor bedroom, looking out toward the lake
and the view to to the sitting room. note laundry shoot door! hooray!
first floor sitting room
up the stairs to the second floor, there are carpeted bedrooms aplenty. this faces the street
and this one is HUGE and faces the street. it also has an acoustic ceiling and wood paneling.
the upstairs bathroom is all kinds of black and white patterns
and the bedroom at the back of the house has a little window and door that faces out to the lake.
that door leads to the roof of the kitchen, and is begging to be turned back into a sunset deck.
the other bedroom upstairs that faces the lake has lots of nice windows.
back down stairs and around to the front door and behind the stairs, this lead to the driveway and stairs to the basement. there is little wooden door next to the side door, and it's for the milkman. how wish there was still home morning deliveries...
the stairs lead down to a rather giant basement. i want to keep that eagle so badly. it magically transports me to my grandma berg's house.
the bathroom is overwhelming
ah, glorious wisconsin basement.
the view of the back of the hosue from the side of the garage,
and the view standing at the lake shore, looking at the boats, unused dock, and so so so so so much outdoor potential.
