quarantine chronicles, week 1

march 15 brought us the week of cancellations, of grieving, of surprise. with european travel suspended and the norwegian birkebeinerrent officially cancelled, we let go of our long anticipated and much trained-for trip to norway with friends. the kids let go of mormor camp, and we all felt really sad.

that sadness was compounded by the cancellation of our planned family theater trip to see wicked, cancelled st patrick's day gatherings, and suddenly the cancellation of school. david's office closed and he was required to work at home. adaptation kept us busy, and i continued to go to work. but it was a sad and disappointing week.

we emptied the garage, erected a temporary and optimistic garage in the deep backyard to prepare for the long planned-for construction project would start this spring as planned, and we made maple syrup.

right at the end of the week, we went for a hike at indian lake county park, and then our new sofa arrived and suddenly we could all cozy up together on the same piece of furniture for the first time ever as a family of four. moods improved, and we all congratulated ourselves for making in through a WHOLE WEEK of working from home, "schooling" from home, working out at home, finding ways to play outside despite the cold temperatures, and managing all our cancelled plans and requesting refunds and keeping our chins up. at the end of the first week, we all said "OK team, NOT BAD, we can do this."
