welcome summer

the first weekend of true madison summer is over. true madison summer is defined by access to free outdoor music, food carts, festivals, parties, friends, gardening, farmer's markets. madison does summer full bore, and it started this weekend.

ramona had a sleepover on friday night, david and james had a special camp out on the basement floor (for fun, they tell me), while i sold parking to folks coming into town for a rock concert kitty corner from the kids' elementary school. my friends and i sold parking at the school and raised $1500 for the teachers. then we went to see a stand up comedian who is also an early elementary teacher and oh my goodness does she know kids. it was hilarious.

saturday, james and i hit up the farmers market for garden seedlings,

and happened upon two amazing things: 1. safety saturday at the market, where he got to try on a bullet proof vest and a sheriff gave him a brand new copy of his very own percy jackson novel. this is a big deal.

and 2. madison circus space had things to try, including trapeze and the german wheel. that was pretty fun.

later, we went to the waterfront festival by bike and dined and played and danced in the cool lake monona breeze. i got my first sunburn of the year.

after the festival, we planted seedlings, and joined our neighbors for a goodbye party as neighbors georgia and matt and theo get ready to move back to connecticut.

sunday was the annual fools flotilla, and it is a tradition that's making the news....watch this clip closely, because guess who's on the news again. (spoiler: it's us). we are in disguise, as a variety of things/whatever/the kids are on their own.

after that, more festival, and then the annual block party for our own sweet little 'hood. i have a pretty large planning role, and i whole heartedy enjoy this annual party, but i even more whole-heartedly enjoy being done planning/prepping/worrying about.

so, cheers summer, and welcome.
