mother's day weekend

i know mother's day is just a day, not a whole weekend devoted to the celebration of mothers, but it's just easier to refer to the weekend by the holiday name that refers to the weekends location on the calendar. ok? ok.

this weekend was a big full one, mostly because we over-packed saturday. first, we went to the elementary school variety show on friday evening, where a whole bunch of amazing things happens, not least of which was a kid absolutely nailing this dance, move-by-move, and the costume was perfect.

ramona cheerfully joined all her little buddies on the top of the bleachers. it was heartwarming to see.

saturday was an early morning start with a babysitter at 7am at a friend's house so all the parents could go do a trail run half marathon in whitewater. the kids were happy to not stand around in the cold cheering for us on a trail in the woods that they couldn't see, and we were happy to go have a race on a perfect morning without having anyone whining at us about it. everyone wins! (also, david and tim actually did win their age groups in the half marathon, which i am absolutely amazed by...)

racers!

winners!

after the race was the morel hunt, but i got a weird and very unpleasant post race stomachache, so i took a nap and everyone else found gobs and gobs of delicious wild mushrooms.

then the whole race crew and mushroom crew came to our house for a potluck feast, which featured mushrooms, and wild children, all lasting deep into the night (read: 9pm). then it was bedtime for all involved....once the dishes were done and the kitchen mopped.

(which also was chance to compare hair cuts....same barber....)

dinnertime spies....

sunday was mother's day, and my first gift came early: everyone slept until 8am. it was glorious. after that, i had a little tiny honey pie for brunch,

played some foursquare with my favorite buddies,

and we finished the day with a canoe ride to the terrace.
