labor day

we reeeeally wanted to get away for labor day---pack up the car, drive to michigan, lay on the beach, eat ice cream cones. but our rational parent minds took over, and we remembered the stress and exhaustion of starting school for the kids, their pleads for just a little time at home, and my own desire to be home now that i'm working more hours per week than I have for 7 years. so we stayed. and we had a great time. our big event was a short drive to plymouth to see my parents and (OF COURSE) visit the sheboygan county fair.

we picked up my dad the docent at the historical society (and had a brief but informative tour),

and headed to the fair to climb on some tractors.

the big ferris wheel was like a magnet for ramona. she made a bee line to it, and took a ride up in the sky with me and mor far. look at that smile.

james picked his favorite horse and rode that carousel in full joyful glee.

despite all my warnings that the games are rigged and a waste of money and blah blah blah, these 3 fun lovers played a game and got a prize and were so thrilled and who am i to stop their joy?

we shared a giant lemonade and had a very good time. i didn't get to see nearly as many animals as i would prefer, but i can always go back next year.

back at my parents house we shook the pears from the tree,

and made smores around the fire.

it was a good weekend.
