new job

i started a new job last week, and it's the job i've wanted since i did a rotation there in graduate school way back in 2004. i'm super excited. the job is in the women's clinic at the uw-madison campus university health services, and it's all education and reassurance and conversations about safety and protection and decision making and health and wellness and it's wonderful. the whole university health services (UHS) is pretty darn wonderful. the work feels good and rewarding, and is exactly what i'm trained to do. the people are all kind and welcoming, and no one appears to burned out. this is a big change from, ummmm, everywhere i've ever worked.

this new job is pretty great timing, because the uw-madison student health services was just ranked by the princeton review as the top student health service in the country. BOOM. of course, the princeton review probably has questionable methods, validity, and applicability, but still. i'm proud to be joining the best.

also, my new ID badge lists me as faculty. as a former student, twice over, this feels so awesome.

my first uw ID badge, issued september 1997 (eeek--almost 20 years ago!), listed me as a college student. and it was in black and white. and my social security number was printed right on the front on the card. it was a different time....

on a related note, i have a view of my freshman year dorm (sellery B; back then, it was the non-smoking tower) from my new office window.

and there is a view of my old dining hall. it used to be called pop's place, and it definitely did not have a green roof. this fancy new building replaced pop's place, which is undoubtedly a good thing.

my world is very very small here in madison.
