triathletes

the annual neighborhood triathlon on the fourth of july was, again, a total highlight of the whole year. and this year, we brought along our own photographer. ramona and james shared an old iphone and hung out at the beach during the entire race, and both david and i participated in the race. there were lots of adults and little friends at the beach, and now a week later, reviewing the pictures they took gives me a great idea of their perspective of the race and the scene at the beach. these kids, man. they're the best.

the race has grown in the years (and years) since we first got involved. and neither one of us is ever likely to win it again.

neighbors in swimsuits, lined up at the beach at 730 am on a holiday morning. USA! USA!

wading into the water, stepping on the rocky beachy ground, whining about the cold water and weeds and bacteria....

still going.....

and swimming, way way out there, while ramona snaps photos from monkey island

the swim is really just some glorified wading. most of us fake some swimming arm motions, but let's be honest: we are all walking. how else do i manage to wave at my child on the return swim?

staple triumphant on the beach, with a little bit of kid finger in the corner.

and off he goes!

i'm assuming james took this one, of ramona and brooklyn watching racers hop onto bikes.

and while we were all running and biking, the kids were hanging out with pepper the black dog.

and then, after the swim (wading), and the biking, and the running, we were done!

and we all got to wear some old medals

and eleanore most definitely won her 7 weeks post-partum division

and the kids kept up the awesome photography journalism. theo!
