jeff tweedy was a super performer and played all sorts of wilco favorites. he is not pictured because i am a rule follower and did not record or take pictures of any part of the show. but i do have a picture of some of my friends from high school who were also there. they have fewer rules about having their photo taken.

in the morning, my dad and james had a few feats of strength before we hit the road.

after a brief stay in plymouth, we headed out. david's uncle ron brought us to michigan. his recent death was a sad shock, and the get together at david's cousin Brian's house was warm and nice and there were a lot of good memories being shared there. it was packed because he was a wonderful person. i am certain that he is very missed. after ron's memorial, we had pizza with the whole staple family, and then a weekend in grand haven with nana and papa. we love weekends in grand haven with nana and papa. welcome home, guys. we are so glad to have you back.
the michigan welcome center has an ice cream bar vending machine. it is life changing.
waiting for our table at the pizza parlor a bit later, uncle bob and james tried to be very serious. bob does it better than james.
the next day was a gloomy spring day in a beach town, but it was absolutely brightened by so many families of baby canada geese. david and i ran to a small island in the river, and there were many families of geese, all with brand new hatchlings. i did a lot of gasping and squealing. they are cute.
we also ran to the end of the pier and contemplated the old lighthouse.
later, ramona and james took their babies out for lunch. (is it just me, or do these babies look like they're dressed in eastern bloc women's olympic team warm up suits from the late 1970's?).
we also visited the skate park (but forgot the helmets), where james overcame some serious fears and reluctance,
and ramona was characteristically tough as nails, and didn't even notice that she was the only girl at the skate park for 2 hours. look at her, taking a break and taking it all in. this picture is her, 100%, when engaged in or considering physical activity. she has talent for miles, and, more importantly, motivation and determination.
the next day, the sun came out, we loaded the tram, and we went home. the high speed ferry got us to milwaukee by noon, and back to our real world.
driving into the belly of the ferry beast
milwaukee (algonquin for "the good land")
but we're tired. this bedtime selfie that david took this weekend really sums it up: we're tired. and old looking.

It was a great weekend for us too. Those dolls were definitely from the 70's but the warm ups are pure American.
