james thinks that jesus died last friday while we were in florida and was resurrected today while we were at church, and he thinks this happens every year on easter. we kept explaining that were celebrating that miracle that happened once over 2000 years ago, but he's got a pretty good handle on what it means, so i'll let him think that the death and resurrection are current events this year.
in the spirit of that annual celebration, we rolled out all our favorite traditions.
we colored eggs,
we made bunny bread,
we took a pre-church family photo,
we found easter baskets (but first, someone took his pants off for no known reason),
we had an easter egg hunt in the backyard.
but this is the first year in over 5 years that we haven't had company at our house on easter, and while we were lonely for the cheerfulness of a house full of cousins and aunts and uncles and ham and food on the table, we did find joy in NOT cooking, too. we went to a fancy pants brunch at the edgewater hotel. here are the kids, sitting dangerously near to the dessert table.
and here is a photo of david and i, taken (quite expertly, i might add) by ramona. table 51!

the edgewater brunch also featured an "easter bunny" and to no one's surprise, he was terrifying and the kids demonstrated good judgement by refusing to go near enough to him to touch him. they're no dummies.
