a new beach baby

my friend kate in san diego had a new baby 4 weeks ago, and named him leo. he's adorable and soft and wrinkly and grunty and pink and perfect, and i had to meet him before he stopped being a perfect newborn. last weekend, my dear friends and i descended on san diego (well, a few of us did; one of us already lives there). we rented a little house 3 blocks from kate's house, made ourselves as available and as scarce as a new mom needs (i mean, that was our intention. you'll have to ask kate how well we executed that plan), and spent lots of marvelous time together in the sun.

and dad is so calm and happy, which makes for a pretty cool dude baby.

we all took turns holding that sweet baby, spending time in kate's backyard, and strolling her neighborhood.

 

here we all are, minus our offspring.

and here we are with all the native-born californian children in the group.


our little rental house was bright like a rainbow of turquoise,


and the ocean beach neighborhood is breathtaking.

and here are some views from my long coastal run. the views made the ankle pain worth it.

when we weren't with the little kids and babies, steph and i were cruising around in the sun on bikes,

and going to the beach with the locals. 

on a day that nearly 100 degrees, stacy had us all out to her pool. they've got a really good thing going at their place.

not only was the visit gorgeous, but check out these view on the way! madison is a pretty cool looking isthmus, and that grand canyon...oh, that grand canyon.
