big dumb room

when my parents were building their house, my sisters and i were unpleasant middle schoolers. when they shared house blue prints with us, one of my sisters looked at the plans, saw the large back room that contained the kitchen, fireplace, back entry, and dining room, and she announced that it appeared to be "a big dumb room." i just love that phrase. and i really like that uninterrupted big dumb room in my parents' house. i'm so excited to finally have my own big dumb room across the back of my house.

and this friday, they knocked our wall down, and we can finally see the early shape of the big dumb room.

we have knob and tube wiring. suspicions confirmed.

a hole in the floor was about the best thing ever to happen to these kids.

and here it is! one big room, no dividing wall or doorway. big. dumb. room.
