starting this year, our district's high school east high has a new home football field. and it's an old field. breese stevens is a beautiful old stadium just a few blocks from our house, located along east washington avenue. you drive right by it all the time, madison. it was recently updated with new astroturf and is about to get a serious vending facelift. and on friday night, east played their first home game there against those cross town snobs from west high school (i added the part about being snobs for rivalry drama--they probably aren't snobs, but they are definitely on the right side of the tracks). east won in the pouring rain in front a big, wet, enthusiastic crowd. it was great. and we were there, with happy kids in tow, for the if scoring first quarter. david was all aglow and atwitter with high school football nostalgia, and i have to admit that i was, too. next time, we are staying until half time to see the marching band. that's where all my nostalgia lives.
here is the neighborhood crew, braving the rain to walk to the stadium.
and here we are, cheery and wet, loving some football.
go east!
