this old house

it's not exactly perfect timing to notice cracking and buckling of bathroom floor tile while planning a costly kitchen remodel. but hey! that's what happened to us. awesome.

as suspected, the toilet leaks and the sub-floor is wet and swollen and the tile couldn't take the pressure any more. SO GROSS. so this week, up came the tile, then the toilet, then the sub-floor.

the family has been finding creative solutions for our toileting situation. david has also mastered the art of removing and re-installing the toilet. (he is seriously a jack of all trades (and he is evidence that youtube is useful and the internet may be able to save us all)).

now there is a new sub-floor and new slate tile. i love that slate tile.

last night we put down some enhancing sealant. tonight, david is laying down some thick onyx black grout.

tomorrow, the toilet in the hallway becomes the toilet in the bathroom again. next week, the project continues with more sealant, floor boards, a solution to an unanticipated sink plumbing problem (this time, an actual plumber will come to the rescue instead of youtube), and a new sink stand.

i have been on the verge of panic over the whole thing, really. i doubt i'll be able to stay sane during the kitchen remodel. consider yourself warned.
