this morning, i looked back at the 5000+ (5,409, to be exact) photos we took this year, hoping to select a few to represent the year and kiss it good bye. but instead of a few representative photos, you know what i found? endless photos of smiling kids, smiling parents, photos of cousins with happy arms slung over one anothers' shoulder, photos of friends old and new. there were photos of beaches in california and florida and lake superior and lake michigan and all over madison, photos of snow soft and fluffy, photos of sports and camping and hiking and running and racing and skiing, photos of vacations to new places, photos of childless trips and photos of family road trips, photos of concerts and festivals, parties and home time. but in all of these photos, countless smiles, echoing laughter, growing, learning, and loving. what a year.
but how about some highlights?
james became a big kid, which means we had two kids in the house who spent hours playing peacefully at imaginative play in a world of their own creating with a language all their own. it is my greatest joy. they really really like each other!
it turns out that james is FULL of ideas and words. he has so much to say, a new story to tell all the time. he loves music, is a total champion at making us laugh, and is the most snuggly creature i know. james ditched diapers this year (HUGE life changing event, i assure you),
and started preschool with ramona.
ramona continues to surprise us with her sense of humor, awareness of the world around her, and very sharp intellect. she is also a pretty agile little thing. this year she learned to swim independently,
and can ride a bike all on her own.
david is reminded every day that he is suited to his work and is happy in his new role, and i am happy to continue to work in a meaningful way that gives my life focus and a great deal of satisfaction. and david and i entered our tenth year of marriage this year. turns out, that's been pretty awesome, too.

it has been a wonderful year, and i hope 2015 brings more joy and cheer, meaning and satisfaction, learning and love.
