the other night, we went to dinner at the new and nearby korean/asian fusion restaurant sujeo (pronounce Sue-Joe) and waited the standard hour for a table, and enjoyed ourselves very much. adding significant interest to the wait time at the bar was the presence of mary burke, wisconsin's democratic party gubenatorial candidate. she was just a few feet away, chatting with a few recognizable small business owners in our neighborhood.
later, we were seated a few tables away from mary's party, and at the end of the dinner, i saw a single soft serve ice cream cone being carried to her table and was subsequently delivered to a man seated next to her. the man seated next to her had a starched white collar and navy suit, and had all the makings of a campaign coordinator or strategist or some such political type schmoozy fast paced high stress kind of job. so, seeing this, i laugh, and say to david, "looks like josh lyman just got an ice cream cone."
[the punch line is only going to be funny if you know who josh lyman is. let me help you with that: josh lyman is a character on the west wing, which david and i have binged watched on more than one full series occasion. we really know those characters. we know the episodes. big fans. josh lyman is the White House Deputy Chief of Staff and later the Chief Politcal Advisor, played by bradley whitford. bradley whitford is a madison man, born and raised, and graduated from the same high school that our children will attend. he also starred in billy madison as Eric, which i'm sure we ALL remember.]
ok, back to the ice cram cone. i tell david my funny little joke ( you know, ha ha ha, mary burke's political lackey likes ice cream), so david peeks over at the table, and then informs me that the man eating the ice cream cone IS josh lyman/bradley whitford. and then we laughed, hard, for about an hour.
david took pictures, and i made a gif.
