purple streak

as you may have heard, this family celebrates birth months as well as birth days. we are all lucky enough to have our own birth month, and most of us are lucky enough to have a birthday that is at or past the mid-point of the month, which keeps the birth month celebration alive for at least 2 weeks. (sorry, d. tough luck. we promise to try harder this june....)

ramona became acutely aware of the arrival of her birth month this year. as soon as january 1st arrived, she knew that her month was here. and our first special event? she finally finally finally got a little streak of color in her hair. she stares, mouth agape, lost in trance-like wonder, whenever we see anyone with brightly colored hair. so this year, she joined the crowd of brightly colored hair people.

she watched me get my hair cut at my salon, and then it was her turn. alice had a booster seat to place on the salon chair, and my shy little girl climbed right up, spoke directly to alice without any reservations, and never took her eyes off alice the whole time.

and tick-tock goes the clock.

her purple is plant based and will wash out after 20-30 shampoos, so it won't last long. it may not even last until her actual birthday arrives. but man, she LOVES it.
