finally
a hot summer, a drought, and an unexpectedly shady spot all came together to stop my garden from growing. we put in new raised beds in the front yard, and hopes for spinach, chard, and broccoli were high. unfortunately, the harvest has been low and slow. not one leaf if spinach to be seen. only now, in mid october, is there even a hint of broccoli. but a hint of broccoli there is, and we are going to take good care of that plant (until the first frost, which is likely to happen soon). i am no farmer.

Today, we are bringing in the outdoor furniture and taking out the annuals. Only the herbs are left and a bunch of tomatoes which will probably not ripen because of the cold. Another summer gone. It was a good one.
