i didn't think you'd be a boy
but here you are, so happy to be
the newest member of our family
you clap your hands, you beat the drum
you move and crawl, you giggle and hum
always watching, listening, you wait to see
what you can do, how things will be
you're so quick to grow and play
and happy, always, to greet the day

who knew there could be so much joy,
